Travel insurance claims after medical care in Korea: documents to request
Contact the insurer early
When the situation allows, call the assistance number on your policy. Ask whether the provider is in network, preauthorization is required, the insurer can send a guarantee-of-payment letter and which documents must be submitted. In an emergency, seek urgent help first.
Only the insurer can confirm coverage, exclusions, deductibles and benefit limits. A hospital can explain its billing process but cannot promise reimbursement under your policy.
Documents to ask about
- English receipt or payment confirmation;
- itemized medical bill;
- medical certificate, diagnosis document or physician statement;
- prescription and pharmacy receipt;
- relevant test results or medical-record copies;
- admission and discharge summary after hospitalization; and
- proof of payment in the required name.
Ask whether the insurer needs an English translation, diagnosis code, hospital stamp or physician signature. Request time-sensitive certificates before departure. Obtaining them from overseas may require identity checks, authorization forms, fees or postal delivery.
Hospital procedures are examples, not national rules
Those pages describe one institution's process. Another clinic, pharmacy, emergency department or hospital can use different forms and timelines. This article does not recommend a provider.
