When should you file a LOST112 loss report?

File a formal report when the item is not still with the taxi operator, station office, hotel or shop and you need the police system to record the loss. Registration is different from searching the public found-item list: a report describes what you lost, while a found-item search checks property already entered by police and participating organizations.

How do the LOST112 login and app registration work?

  1. Create a LOST112 account and log in. The police portal states that online loss reports require membership.
  2. Open Lost-item report on the website or official mobile app. The app submits reports into the same LOST112 system.
  3. Select the jurisdiction, enter the loss details and save the report. Keep the resulting management number or report record for follow-up.
Foreign visitor fallback: online identity verification may not work for every traveler. Do not invent Korean identity details or use another person's account; take your passport and loss details to a police box, police substation or police station instead.

What details should you prepare before registering?

  • The closest known date and time, with the exact time whenever possible.
  • Region, district, venue, station, route, taxi trip or other last-known location.
  • Item category, color, brand, model and distinctive marks.
  • For a phone or device, a serial number or IMEI if you have it stored safely.
  • A private ownership detail that can distinguish your property without exposing sensitive information publicly.

The official form separates the public report title from a details field that is not displayed on the public list. Follow the current form instructions and avoid placing passwords, full card numbers or other unnecessary secrets in public-facing text.

How can police register the report for you?

Visit a nearby police box, police substation or police station and ask the lost-property officer to accept the report. Give the same time, location and item details you would enter online. After an in-person report, keep the receipt and its management number; LOST112 says that number can be used to check the report again through the lost-item search area.

What happens after the report is filed?

If you allow SMS or email notifications, LOST112 may notify you when a similar item enters the system. A possible match is not automatic proof of ownership: contact the holding office, quote the management number and ask what identification and ownership evidence to bring before traveling there.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a LOST112 account to file an online loss report?

Yes. LOST112 states that online reports require membership and login. Public found-item searching is a separate task; use the companion recovery guide when you only need to search or contact a transport operator.

Can I register through the LOST112 mobile app?

Yes. The official mobile service supports loss reports and found-item searches, and app registrations are reflected in the same LOST112 system.

What should I keep after filing?

Keep the management number or police-issued receipt. Use it when checking the report, contacting the responsible office or identifying a possible match.
