Tip: Only feed the pellets sold at the on-site vending machine -- don't offer food brought from outside, since it can make the deer sick.

Feeding the deer corral

Seoul Forest has an open-air deer corral where visitors can hand-feed a small herd through a low barrier. Feed is sold from vending machines near the enclosure entrance for a small fee, and feeding itself is otherwise free to take part in. Early morning on a weekday tends to be the best time, both for calmer deer and softer light for photos, since the corral gets busy with families on weekend afternoons.

Getting around the park by bike

  • Ttareungi, Seoul's public bike-share system, has docking stations right at the park entrance -- a one-hour rental is inexpensive and requires the Ttareungi app plus a Korean phone number or supported foreign payment method.
  • The park's riverside paths connect toward the wider Han River bike route, so a rental here can extend into a longer ride if you want more than a loop of the park itself.
  • Weekends bring heavier foot and bike traffic on the main paths -- a weekday visit gives noticeably more room to ride comfortably.

Finishing the day in Seongsu

Exiting Seoul Forest toward Seongsu-dong (about a 10-minute walk) puts you directly into one of Seoul's densest cafe districts, built largely out of converted industrial buildings along Yeonmujang-gil. It's a natural way to end a park visit -- swap the bike for a coffee and continue exploring on foot.

  1. The park itself has no fixed closing time, but plan to reach the deer corral by around 5pm to be sure it's still staffed and open.
  2. Bring cash or a card for the feed vending machine and bike rental in case one payment method has an issue.
  3. Combine with a Seongsu cafe stop rather than treating them as two separate trips -- they're a five-to-ten-minute walk apart.
