Fast choice: Use Express for a reserved, non-stop ride to Seoul Station. Use All-Stop for Hongik University, Gimpo Airport or a lower tap-in fare. Check the live AREX timetable because fares and journey times can change.

AREX to KTX: luggage-friendly elevator route

Allow transfer margin and follow current station signage because elevator access and platform assignments can change.

AREX vs Bus vs Taxi Estimator

Select your Seoul destination for a planning-range comparison. Road times vary with traffic and rail totals exclude the final walk.

1. AREX Express vs All-Stop

FeatureExpressAll-Stop
RouteNon-stop airport terminals–Seoul StationEvery station, including Gimpo Airport and Hongik University
Typical planning timeAbout 43–51 minutes depending on terminal and current timetableAbout 59–66 minutes to Seoul Station
TicketDedicated departure and reserved seat; verify live fareTransit-card tap or single-journey ticket; distance fare applies
LuggageDedicated storage and predictable seatingCommuter layout; can be crowded

2. Buy and Use the Correct Ticket

At the airport machine, choose the train product first. Express passengers receive a dedicated ticket or QR credential for the selected service and should follow Express signs and gates. All-Stop passengers can tap a compatible transit card such as T-money or buy a subway single-journey card. Do not tap T-money at an Express-only gate and assume it covers the reserved train.

  1. Confirm Terminal 1 or Terminal 2.
  2. Select English and verify Seoul Station or the intermediate stop.
  3. Check the departure time, fare and gate printed on screen.
  4. Keep the ticket or QR available until the exit is complete.

3. Match the Train to the Hotel

Hongdae travelers normally benefit from the All-Stop train because Hongik University is an intermediate stop. Seoul Station hotels can compare the reserved Express with the lower-cost All-Stop. For Myeongdong or Gangnam, add the subway transfer, elevator route and final walk before deciding. A direct airport bus may be easier with large luggage even when its road time is longer.

Do not rely on a screenshot: open the official AREX timetable after baggage claim and leave margin for immigration and the walk to the platform.
