Korea Internet Guide 2026: eSIM vs USIM vs Pocket Wi-Fi

A source-checked connectivity guide for device compatibility, Korean phone numbers, airport counters and group travel.

REVIEWED AUG 29, 2026 · VERIFY LIVE RULES BEFORE TRAVEL
Key Takeaways
  • eSIM is fastest: install the QR profile before departure, then enable it after landing.
  • A tourist 010 number is not resident identity: it handles ordinary calls or texts but normally cannot complete PASS or financial verification.
  • Pocket Wi-Fi suits a group: several travelers can share it, but must stay nearby and manage charging and return.

What a tourist 010 number can—and cannot—verify

A prepaid voice SIM or eSIM can provide a Korean number after passport or entry verification. It may receive hotel, restaurant-waitlist or taxi calls and ordinary SMS. That does not mean it supports regulated Korean mobile identity verification.

PASS, banking and verified local-marketplace accounts commonly require the subscriber to match a Korean resident record. A short-term plan verified with a passport is generally not linked to a Foreign Residence Card—formerly ARC—in that way. Platforms apply their own rules, so an ordinary code may work while formal identity confirmation fails. Set up navigation with the Korean map guide before relying on a local number.

Incheon Airport counters and advance booking

CarrierVerified arrivals pattern
SK TelecomSelected inbound centers operate 24 hours; other counters have limited hours. Confirm T1 or T2 online.
KTT1 Hall A: 06:00–22:00; T1 Hall F: 24 hours. Check the live selector for T2.
LG U+T1 Gate F and T2 Gate 3: 24 hours; T1 Gate A and T2 Gate 8: 06:00–22:00.

Hours can change. Online reservation may offer promotional pricing and pickup instructions; compare the final amount after voice credit, router deposit and throttling rules. Late arrivals should save the voucher and follow the Incheon late-night guide.

Choose by trip type

  • Solo and compatible phone: data eSIM.
  • Calls or restaurant callbacks: voice-capable USIM or eSIM.
  • Three or more people or laptops: pocket Wi-Fi plus a power bank.
  • Long stay needing PASS: investigate a resident subscription after residence registration.

Five-minute preflight checklist

  1. Confirm phone unlock and eSIM or band compatibility.
  2. Choose data-only versus voice/SMS.
  3. Save the QR code, voucher and support contact offline.
  4. Disable unintended home-line data roaming.
  5. Download maps, translation and the Korea payment guide.
