Before you go

Medical treatment in another country adds language, travel and payment risk to an ordinary healthcare decision. Ask for the clinician’s identity, diagnosis or treatment purpose, alternatives, material risks, recovery plan and emergency contact in language you understand. A coordinator can arrange logistics, but clarify whether that person works for the clinic, a registered facilitator or an independent broker. Never let a sales chat replace informed consent with the treating professional.

Legal and financial safeguards

Request an itemized written estimate, deposit status, cancellation schedule and rescheduling rule before transferring money. Keep the clinic’s legal name, receipt, consent forms, messages and medical records. This guide does not claim a cosmetic medical VAT refund: any expired or discontinued special refund program must not be presented as a current benefit. Ordinary retail tax-free shopping rules are separate from medical services.

  • Consent: benefits, alternatives, risks and downtime must be explained before treatment.
  • Records: request copies of itemized bills, consent, test results and aftercare instructions.
  • Broker warning: reject pressure, unverifiable credentials, personal-bank transfers and guaranteed outcomes.

A practical dispute plan

  1. Raise the concern in writing with the institution and request a dated response.
  2. Preserve advertisements, quotes, payment evidence, photographs and medical records.
  3. Seek immediate medical care first when health is at risk.
  4. Contact Medical Korea for navigation and the Korea Consumer Agency for the current formal consumer-dispute route.

Protect your rights

Koursea cannot decide negligence or guarantee compensation. Formal bodies need evidence, dates and the correct legal entity. Card issuers may impose short dispute deadlines, and a facilitator may not be the party that delivered treatment. Ask who receives the money and who owes the refund before paying.

Decision rule: Walk away when the provider will not identify the clinician, itemize the price or document cancellation and aftercare terms.
