
Calculate watt-hours correctly
Read the printed Wh value first. If only milliamp-hours and voltage appear, calculate Wh = mAh × V ÷ 1,000. A 20,000mAh bank at 3.7V is about 74Wh, not 200Wh. If capacity markings are missing or unreadable, security staff may reject the battery because compliance cannot be verified.
Follow the Korean quantity tiers
Current Korean guidance allows up to five power banks at or below 100Wh in carry-on baggage. More than five in that tier, or batteries above 100Wh and up to 160Wh, require airline approval; quantities in the 100–160Wh range remain limited by dangerous-goods rules. Over 160Wh is not permitted for ordinary passenger carriage.
Protect and store each battery
Never place a power bank in checked baggage. Insulate terminals using an individual pouch, plastic bag, terminal cap or tape. During the flight, keep it on your person or in the seat pocket rather than the overhead bin, and do not charge the power bank. Report heat, swelling, smoke or damage immediately.
