Olive Young Global (the English-language app and site) is a separate checkout system from the Korean in-store registers, aimed at overseas shoppers who want items shipped internationally or want an English catalog to browse before a trip. It runs its own promotions -- often app-exclusive bundle discounts -- that do not always match the price on the shelf tag inside a Myeongdong or Gangnam store, and it does not reflect real-time in-store stock.

Walking into a store gets you same-day product, the ability to physically check a shade or texture, and access to staff samples, but Korean-language shelf tags and checkout screens unless you're at a large flagship with English-speaking staff.

Using the app to check stock before you walk in

The Global app is most useful as a scouting tool, not necessarily a purchase channel, when you're already in Seoul:

• Search the product in the app first to confirm it's a real SKU and see the normal retail price, so you can spot an inflated "tourist" price at a smaller kiosk-style store.
• Large flagship stores (Myeongdong Town, Gangnam) are the most likely to match app promotions in person -- ask staff directly if a listed app deal applies at the register.
• International shipping through the app can take 1-2 weeks and adds shipping cost, so it rarely beats simply carrying purchases home in luggage for a short trip.

Tax refund works the same either way

Korea's immediate tax refund for foreign tourists (Tax Free Korea) applies at participating physical stores when you spend above the minimum threshold and show your passport at checkout -- this benefit is tied to the in-store purchase, not to the app. Online Global-app orders shipped internationally are typically already VAT-exempt at checkout instead, so you won't file a separate refund for those.
