Duty-Free Shopping in Seoul: Passport & Airport Pickup

A downtown receipt is not final handoff: collection point, terminal and flight must match.

Identity rule: use the passport and itinerary of the traveler collecting goods. A name, passport, flight, date or terminal mismatch can prevent pickup.

Separate duty-free from tax refund

Downtown duty-free stores sell eligible goods for export and transfer them to secured airport collection. This differs from an ordinary tax-refund shop where you carry the item. Check eligibility, purchase deadlines and quantity limits on retailer and Customs pages.

Enter departure information accurately

  1. Present the original passport or accepted verification.
  2. Provide departure date, airport, terminal and flight.
  3. Confirm pickup location and hours.
  4. Review currency conversion and card fees.
  5. Keep voucher and receipt offline.

Lotte and Shilla prices, coupons and stock differ by channel. Compare the final charged amount, not the headline discount. Ask whether cancellations or flight changes require advance support.

Allow airport time

After immigration and security, follow signs to the correct terminal counter. Queue with passport, boarding pass and voucher ready. Count and inspect packages. Multiple sealed bags still affect airline cabin limits.

Protect liquids and connections

  • Keep liquids sealed with the receipt.
  • Ask whether the transfer airport accepts the security bag.
  • Do not open liquids before final screening.
  • Check destination import allowances.
  • Declare goods when required.

If the flight changes, contact the retailer rather than assuming the package moves automatically.

Before you go

Final practical check: save the official page, exact Korean address and nearest transit exit offline. Reconfirm opening hours, reservation cutoff and weather on the day, because a map listing or old price is not a guarantee. Compare the complete Korean-won total, including deposits, equipment, booking fees or optional services, before paying. Carry an overseas card plus a small Korean-won backup, keep the receipt, and ask about cancellation or exchange terms. Allow extra time for queues and accessibility, and choose a safe alternative when staff, signs or official notices conflict with an older travel post.
