Choose a visitor-center route

Bukhansan has multiple entrances, steep stone sections and very different difficulties. Ask an official visitor center for a route matching fitness, shoes, daylight and current conditions. A lower temple, valley or forest route may suit a beginner better than Baegundae. Download the official map and ensure both endpoints connect to transit.

Budget for essentials

• Wear shoes with grip.
• Carry water, food, sun protection and a charged phone.
• Add layers or traction according to season and advice.
• Use a backpack that keeps hands free.
• Carry rubbish out.

Stores near some approaches sell or rent items, but availability and price change. Confirm opening, identification deposit, return deadline and fit. Never rely on finding critical winter safety gear after arrival.

Follow signs and turn around

2. Stay on marked trails.
3. Yield on narrow steps.
4. Do not feed wildlife.
5. For a genuine emergency call 119 and give the trail marker.

Protect daylight

Set a turnaround time from sunset, not ambition. Descending can take as long as climbing and is harder when tired. Save the Korean exit and bus stop. Entry is not usually the main expense, but transport, food and equipment vary; carry transit payment and an emergency taxi option.
