1. Book Through Official KORAIL Channels

Use the official English reservation service linked by KORAIL or buy from a station ticket machine or staffed counter. Standard reservations commonly open about one month before departure, but holiday ticket sales can use separate dates and queues. Search the exact origin station because Seoul, Yongsan, Suseo and Cheongnyangni are not interchangeable.

1. Select the travel date and exact station pair.
2. Compare departure time, train type and arrival station.
3. Enter passenger details exactly as requested.
4. Pay and confirm the issued ticket record.
5. Save an offline copy with carriage and seat.

2. Foreign Credit Cards and Failed Payments

Official tourism guidance says foreign-issued cards are accepted at KTX ticket machines and counters. Online approval can still fail because of issuer authentication or name formatting. Try a second card or use an official station channel rather than an unknown reseller. If the card app shows a pending charge but KORAIL shows no issued booking, investigate before buying the same itinerary again.

3. Seoul Station Transfer Flow

Arrive with enough time to find the KTX concourse, platform number and carriage position. Airport Railroad passengers must leave the airport-rail area and follow station signs rather than assuming a same-platform transfer. Elevators can add time with luggage. Check the departure board for the train number, not only “Busan” or another destination, because several trains may serve the corridor.

4. Valid Ticket and Penalty Protection

Do not board a reserved train without a valid ticket. KORAIL conditions can impose substantial additional fare for unauthorized travel, and the amount depends on the violation; do not rely on a simplified “always 10×” claim. If your train is sold out, search another official departure, conventional train or eligible standing product. A screenshot from a private seller is not a transferable official ticket.

Keep large bags out of aisles and doors, retain passports and medicine with you, and match the carriage marker before departure. If you miss the train, take the booking to an official counter and ask about the next valid option.
