How to reserve a restaurant in Korea without a Korean phone number
Published August 22, 2026 · Reviewed August 27, 2026 · Booking rules vary by restaurant
- Key point: Use a global booking service, hotel assistance or a walk-in according to the restaurant's current process.
- Price: Confirm whether a deposit is deducted, refunded or forfeited and record the currency and cancellation deadline.
- Tip: Save the exact branch, date, party size and confirmation offline, then keep a fallback restaurant nearby.

Choose the booking route by restaurant
- Global reservation service: search the exact restaurant and branch in English and Korean. Confirm the address before paying.
- Restaurant's official channel: use its verified website or social profile if it clearly offers foreign-visitor booking.
- Hotel or concierge: ask whether staff can call, but do not assume they can override deposits or identity rules.
- Walk in: suitable for casual restaurants, especially outside peak meal periods. Keep a second nearby choice.
A restaurant appearing on a map does not prove that the map's reservation button is the restaurant's official booking system. Check the branch name, date, party size and address across the booking confirmation and the restaurant's official listing.
What to prepare before booking
- Your name exactly as you will present it
- A reachable email address and an app that remains logged in
- A foreign card enabled for online overseas payments
- The party size, including children when required
- Dietary restrictions written clearly in Korean
- A screenshot of the confirmation, reservation number and cancellation deadline
Deposits and cancellation rules
Popular restaurants may require a deposit or prepayment. Read whether the amount is deducted from the meal, refunded after attendance or forfeited after late cancellation. Check the displayed currency and the card statement rather than assuming the quoted price includes every bank conversion fee.
Track the deposit through completion
Record whether the payment is a booking fee, refundable deposit, card hold or prepaid meal. Note the cancellation cutoff in Korea Standard Time and what counts as late arrival or no-show. If the party size changes, ask whether the reservation must be modified before the deadline rather than assuming the restaurant will simply adjust the table.
After dining, keep the receipt and booking status until the deposit is deducted or released as promised. A pending card authorization may disappear differently from a completed charge that needs a refund. Use the booking platform's official support channel and order number if the status remains wrong.
Remote waitlists and on-site queues
VISITKOREA says supported services can offer remote and on-site waitlists. A queue number is not always a fixed reservation time: your position can move quickly, and a restaurant may cancel the entry if you do not respond or arrive within its grace period. Keep notifications on, stay close enough to return and save the restaurant name in Korean for navigation.
If the app requests Korean verification
Stop before borrowing another person's identity or phone number. Look for a separate “Global” service, email login, a direct restaurant channel or a walk-in option. Some domestic services are designed around Korean mobile verification, while a foreign-friendly service may operate separately.
At the restaurant
Show the confirmation screen and say the reservation name. Arrive early enough to locate the correct branch. If delayed, contact the restaurant through the channel shown in the confirmation. A note about an allergy or celebration is a request, not proof that the restaurant accepted it; obtain a clear response when it affects safety or your decision.
Confirm dietary requests outside the free-text box
Use the booking note to flag the issue, then seek a written response from the restaurant when an allergen, religious requirement or fixed-course substitution determines whether you can eat. State the exact ingredient and whether broth, sauce, shared oil or equipment matters. “Request submitted” is not the same as “restaurant confirmed.”
If the restaurant cannot confirm the request, cancel within the stated terms when possible and use a prepared alternative. Do not arrive expecting front-of-house staff to redesign a tasting menu after the cancellation deadline.
Keep a confirmation packet offline
Save the restaurant's Korean name, branch address, reservation name, party size, date and time, confirmation number, deposit amount and cancellation deadline in one screenshot folder. Include the official contact channel and the final menu or course selected. This protects against an app logout, weak signal or a booking that is difficult to find under an English spelling.
If someone else made the reservation, confirm whether the lead guest must be present and what name staff will see. Do not forward a reusable login, full card details or identity document when a reservation number will do.
If the confirmation and restaurant disagree
- Compare the exact branch, date, time zone and party size.
- Show the written confirmation and payment record without arguing over an old screenshot.
- Ask the restaurant to state the available remedy: seat, later time, refund process or booking-platform support.
- Record the response inside the official booking channel.
- Use the nearby backup rather than losing the entire meal period.
Protect the phone-number field
Use only a number you are authorized to receive. A hotel number should be entered only with the property's permission, and a temporary travel number may stop working after departure. Email and in-app notifications should remain enabled until the meal and any deposit release are complete.
Plan the arrival handoff
Save the branch entrance, floor, building and nearest station exit, not only the neighborhood pin. Large complexes can have separate street and mall entrances, and arriving at the wrong branch can consume the grace period. Keep the Korean restaurant name visible for staff or a taxi driver.
For a group, appoint one person to hold the confirmation and contact the restaurant. Everyone should still know the exact branch and backup meeting point so a dead battery or split taxi does not turn into a no-show.
Quick decision
- High-demand tasting menu: reserve early through an official global channel and study the refund terms.
- Popular barbecue at dinner: reserve if possible; otherwise visit off-peak with a nearby alternative.
- Everyday local meal: a walk-in may be simpler than forcing a domestic-only app.
- Large group: contact the exact branch and confirm seating, minimum orders and deposit terms.
