Lost baggage or lost property at Incheon Airport: who to contact

Published August 25, 2026 · Last verified August 27, 2026 · Airport, police and transport responsibility routes rechecked

Traveler at an airport baggage carousel comparing five responsibility routes: airline baggage counter, aircraft cabin, terminal lost-and-found office, airport bus and airport train
Route the case by where responsibility was lost: airline for checked baggage or the aircraft cabin, airport office for terminal property, and the exact operator for a bus or train. Original Koursea editorial illustration.
Start with the responsible location: airlines handle checked baggage and aircraft-cabin items; Incheon's Lost and Found Office handles many terminal and public-area items; the exact bus or rail operator handles property left in its vehicle or station.

Absence from one database does not prove that an item was stolen, discarded or never found. Registration and transfer can take time, and special categories can move to another organization.

Missing checked baggage: stay in the claim area

Check the live flight record, carousel display and oversized-baggage area first. A carousel change, delayed unloading or oversized-item route can look like loss.

If the bag still does not arrive, go to the operating airline's lost-baggage counter behind the carousel. Incheon says individual airlines manage baggage information and policies vary. Keep the boarding pass, baggage-tag receipt, bag description and a reachable Korean delivery contact accessible.

Leave with a record: obtain a written file/reference number, tracing contact and delivery or collection instruction. Verify that the airline knows when your accommodation changes. A verbal promise is not enough.

If a flight departed Incheon and the bag failed to appear elsewhere, Incheon directs passengers to the arrival airport. The receiving airline or handler creates the case where non-delivery becomes visible.

Damaged checked baggage: report before leaving

Photograph the damage, bag tag and whole suitcase before moving contents or arranging repair. Ask the airline counter for a written damage report and next-step instructions.

There is no universal compensation promise. Repair, replacement, exclusions and reporting deadlines depend on the airline and applicable carriage conditions. If you already left, contact the operating airline immediately and keep the bag, tag and photos.

Item left inside the aircraft

Contact the operating airline rather than only the codeshare brand. Give the flight number, date, seat, cabin area and item description. Mention a seat pocket, overhead bin or lavatory only when it helps narrow the search.

Airlines use different lost-property systems and handlers. A terminal office cannot search an aircraft cabin simply because the aircraft arrived at Incheon. Submit ownership evidence through the airline's official route, not a public comment.

Item lost in the terminal or public airport area

Incheon's Lost and Found Office covers passenger terminals, the concourse, transportation-center common areas, curbside and parking areas. Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 have separate offices. Check the current airport page for office location, hours, phone and email.

Record the terminal, airside/public side, floor, gate or arrival exit, nearby shop or landmark, date, narrow time range, item brand/color and a non-secret identifying feature.

Search the current police public lost-property portal when the airport directs you there, but follow the airport's instruction for items not yet registered. A new find may not appear immediately. Do not post passport numbers, full serial numbers or card details publicly.

Item left on a bus, train or taxi

The terminal office excludes property left on an airport bus or Airport Railroad service. For a bus, use the ticket, route number, boarding stop, departure time, payment record and destination to identify the company. “Airport limousine” does not mean one operator covers every bus.

For Airport Railroad, record Express or All-stop service, origin/destination stations, boarding time, carriage position and seat area. Use the operator's current official contact rather than an old terminal number.

For a taxi, preserve the receipt, app booking, vehicle number, payment time or official-rank details. Use the platform or taxi lost-property channel. If there is a theft concern or immediate risk, contact police; do not locate or confront a driver yourself.

Passport, phone, wallet or card

Passport

Check Incheon's current special handling for foreign passports and contact your embassy or consulate if recovery is not prompt. A passport can transfer from the airport office after a stated period. Confirm the current destination and use the lost-passport recovery checklist when travel is imminent.

Phone or connected device

Use the maker's official lost-device controls from a trusted device. Lock it, add a safe contact and protect accounts. Do not travel to a location marker or confront anyone. Recheck the airport's current special storage/transfer handling.

Wallet and cards

Freeze or block cards and review transactions. Use only limited ownership evidence when appropriate. Never publish a full card number, security code, passport image or unlock code.

Lost, delayed or possibly stolen?

Use neutral language until evidence supports a stronger conclusion. An airline-handled checked bag is a tracing case. An item unintentionally left behind is lost property. Unauthorized transactions, surveillance evidence or a witnessed taking may require police.

For immediate danger or suspected crime in Korea, call 112. Airport security can route an on-site report. A routine lost-property email is not an emergency channel.

Before collecting an item

Incheon describes in-person and proxy collection, but identification, authorization, storage, shipping and fees can vary. Confirm the item match, holding office, current hours, ownership evidence, proxy documents, shipping availability and whether the item has transferred elsewhere before traveling.

Do not send an original passport or unrestricted identity copy unless the responsible official organization provides a verified secure procedure.
