SRT vs KTX: the basics
SRT (Super Rapid Train) is a separate high-speed rail operator from Korail's KTX, running on much of the same infrastructure but sold through its own booking platform and often at a slightly lower fare on comparable routes. The trains themselves offer broadly similar speed and comfort to KTX, so the meaningful difference for most travelers comes down to departure station and booking system rather than the actual ride.
Suseo Station: SRT's departure point
- SRT trains depart from Suseo Station in southeastern Seoul, a separate station from both Seoul Station and Yongsan Station where most KTX trains depart.
- Suseo is connected via Seoul Subway Line 3 and the Suin-Bundang Line, making it reachable but requiring different subway planning than a Seoul Station departure.
- If you're staying in southern Seoul or Gangnam, Suseo can actually be more convenient than trekking to Seoul Station -- worth factoring into which service you book.
Which to choose for your trip
Compare both departure station convenience relative to your accommodation and the fare on your specific date and route, since price and schedule can favor either service depending on the day. Both services cover the Gyeongbu corridor (Seoul area to Busan) and other major routes, so for most travelers the decision comes down to logistics and price rather than any meaningful difference in the actual travel experience.
SRT trains are operated by a separate company from KTX but run on much of the same high-speed rail infrastructure, meaning travel times between equivalent routes are often very similar despite departing from different stations. Suseo Station, located in southeastern Seoul, can actually be more convenient than Seoul Station for travelers staying in the Gangnam area, cutting out a cross-city trip to reach the train. Ticket pricing between SRT and KTX is broadly comparable, so the more relevant factor for most travelers is simply which departure station is closer to where they're staying.
