Not every station has a staffed office, so check for one at a major hub station rather than assuming your local stop has one.

The refund process at either a convenience store or a metro office is generally quick, often taking just a couple of minutes once staff process the request, so it rarely requires setting aside significant extra time. Some travelers choose to simply keep a T-Money card as a souvenir or for a planned return trip rather than refunding a small remaining balance, since the card itself has no expiration. For a larger leftover balance, however, working through a metro station office to avoid the store-level refund cap is generally the more efficient choice.
