3 to 5 days in Seoul: an itinerary you can adjust
Before you assign the days
- Place a fixed-date concert, tour or reservation first.
- Do not put Gyeongbokgung blindly on Day 1: its official listing identifies Tuesday as the regular closure day, with a holiday exception.
- Keep Bukchon in its permitted daytime window and treat it as a residential area.
- Check heat, rain, typhoon and air-quality warnings before a walking-heavy day.
- Save the final useful route to your accommodation before the evening extension.

The word or matters. Combining every option creates more transfers and less time in each place.
Day 1: historic central Seoul
- Start with one confirmed-open palace or an accepted official guided-walk reservation.
- Continue to either Seochon or Bukchon—not both automatically.
- Eat near Insadong or Jongno and allow time for tea, galleries or crafts.
- Finish with Cheonggyecheon, Myeongdong or an early return according to weather and energy.
Gyeongbokgung can anchor the route, but check the palace, museums, special admission and ceremonies separately. One operating page does not prove every nearby facility is open.
Compact or weather version
Choose one palace plus Insadong. In dangerous heat or heavy rain, select one confirmed-open indoor anchor and shorten outdoor lanes. Official Seoul walking tours can be canceled during weather warnings.
Day 2: choose Hongdae or Seongsu
Hongdae and Yeonnam
Choose Hongdae when music, nightlife, youth culture and west Seoul matter. Start later if the evening is the point, walk one coherent district route and decide the return plan before the final venue.
Seongsu and Seoul Forest
Choose Seongsu when Korean brands, cafés, temporary pop-ups and Seoul Forest matter. Verify one changing event as an anchor and keep a permanent nearby alternative. Use the Seongsu visitor guide for the station-to-forest route.
Do not combine: Hongdae and Seongsu sit on different sides of central Seoul. Use Day 4 for the one you skip. A low-energy day can be one station area, one meal and one indoor anchor.
Day 3: Jamsil, one Gangnam node or the river
Jamsil
Jamsil fits a family attraction, Seokchon Lake, sports or a concert. For a ticketed event, work backward from entry and likely exit rather than adding distant sightseeing.
A specific Gangnam node
Gangnam Station, COEX/Samseong, Sinsa/Apgujeong and Express Bus Terminal support different plans. Choose one because it matches your interest; do not cross between them only to say you visited Gangnam.
Hangang option
Add a river segment only after checking weather, daylight and the return route. A picnic or long walk is optional in heat, rain or poor air quality.
Day 4: add what you skipped
Add Hongdae if Day 2 was Seongsu, or Seongsu if Day 2 was Hongdae. Alternatively, use the day for a museum, market, K-pop interest, skincare shopping or a slower neighborhood. Laundry, luggage delivery, tax-refund paperwork and rest are real itinerary work.
Day 5: deeper Seoul or one verified day trip
The safe default is a deeper Seoul theme: another palace district, city-wall segment, accessible course, museum pair, market plan or K-pop route. For a day trip, verify the official opening, outbound booking, last useful return and weather in the same session. Do not add one merely because five-day itineraries are expected to contain it.
Match the plan to your accommodation
- Myeongdong or central Seoul reduces friction for Day 1 and many first-trip routes.
- Hongdae favors west-Seoul days and late evenings.
- Jamsil or a precise Gangnam node fits a fixed venue or business commitment.
- Seongsu is a deliberate café, retail and Seoul Forest choice—not a universal first base.

Daily operating checklist
- Reopen the official page for the day's anchor.
- Confirm closure, reservation status and any weather warning.
- Save Korean names and exact entrances in a Korean mapping app.
- Choose one nearby fallback that avoids a cross-city transfer.
- Check the final useful route back.
- Carry a payment backup and plan your luggage.
